Todd Michney Wins Serve, Learn, Sustain Award

Todd Michney, assistant professor in the School of History and Sociology (HSOC), has been awarded the SLS Award for Excellence in Community-Engaged Sustainability Teaching.

His course, “Semester in the City,” positively shapes the students and sets a high bar for community-engagement at the Institute. In their letters, Michney’s students reflected on the impact not only of his innovative course design, assignments, and out-of-the-classroom experiences, but also the particular framework he offered them for doing community-based research and projects. Additionally, Executive Director Debra Edelson of the Grove Park Foundation wrote appreciatively of Michney’s “commitment to the Grove Park community through . . . research, oral histories and by modeling local partnership” to his students.

The award will be given at the Awards Luncheon in the Student Center on April 11th.
